Chevy Sportsmen at Pomona

Chevy doorcars and Chevy-powered cars dominated the Lucas Oil Sportsman classes at the 49th annual NHRA Winternationals. In the Alcohol Funny Car class perennial champ Frank Manzo won the money in an all-Monte Carlo final round. Manzo got his 72nd careernational-event victory with his defeat of Brian Hough 5.558/260.26 to Hough’s 5.779/250.27. The 11-time Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series champion was making his 96th career final-round appearance.

"We worked hard all winter," Manzo said. "We've missed a total of maybe five days of working on the car since we raced in Atlanta last season. For Sportsman racers with full-time jobs, that's saying something. We've worked Saturdays and Sundays, and it's starting to pay."

Eight of the top ten qualifiers in Alky Funny Car had Chevy body styles.

Comp Eliminator featured a Chevy at the top of the qualifying list and in the winners circle.
