Knoxville NSRA Gathering

Held May 2-4, 2008 at Chilhowee Park and Exposition Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, it appeared for much of the weekend that the wet weather would snuff an otherwise great gathering of hot rods. Not to be discouraged by a little wet stuff, rodders from at least six states surrounding got together for a weekend of good, clean fun. From our perspective, it couldn’t have been better, with more and more all-Chevy street rods at these events. In the past, there were plenty of Chevy engines under the hood, but the trend now is to keep your Chevy all-Chevy, a preference we hope won’t subside.

For now, the NSRA’s mandate to exclude post-1949 Bow ties leave out a whole bunch of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s stuff we’re used to, but the turnout was much higher than we had anticipated with something in the neighborhood of 3,000 vehicles.

A good-sized Manufacturers Midway gave rodders something to do while waiting for the storm to pass, and the local car clubs who worked this event are to be commended, as they kept everything running smoothly even when the weather worsened, and put on a great event.

A ’47 Aero Coupe from Lenoir City, TN, was as much as we got on this one before the sky opened up the first time.
