The Bonneville Salt Flats is the place for taking a vehicle to its utmost performance and several Chevrolet cars took part in the annual Speed Weeks testing of man and machine. Photographer Tom Schiltz was there to capture some of the action.

The Stringfellow & Kirk E Blown Gas Competition Coupe (E/BGCC) 2000 Chevy Cavalier from Buckeye, Arizona, is powered by a 258-inch Chevy V-8. Drivers are Jim Kirk, Mike Kirk, and Donnie Stringfellow. These guys hold the current record of 253.221 with their old car. This car went through the 4-mile clocks at 264+ mph when it started to spin. When the car got backwards, the air caught the spoiler and the car flew. Amazingly the car never rolled and the driver was unhurt.

Duffin Bros Racing B/GT Car ran 231 mph against a class record of 233 held by Carter's Family Flyer.
