JEFF BURTON CAPTURES BEST FINISH OF THE SEASON

SIX CHEVROLET SS RACE CARS IN TOP 12 OVERALL

Jeff Burton posted a season-best third place finish in his No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS at the Camping World RV Sales 301 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).  With an impressive career record of four (4) wins (’97,’98, ’99 & ‘00), Burton now has 14 Top-10’s in 37 starts at what is known as the ‘Magic Mile’.

“It was a lot of work,” said the veteran driver. “We had a really good car.  We thought the CAT Chevrolet was as good as anybody.  The No. 78 (Kurt Busch) was better than everybody, but once he had his problems then I think that opened the door for us.  The cautions didn’t fall quite the way we needed them to. None-the-less, we had a good day.  I’m proud of everybody.”

Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson had a strong run and finished sixth overall in his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS. Johnson started the 301-lap race from the 43rd spot, after being regulated to the back of the field for failing post-qualifying inspection last Friday. But hard work paid off and he passed 37 cars by race-end today. “It was tough,” said Johnson, who leads the point standings by 56 markers over second place. “It wasn’t easy by any means.  You had to make quick work of people on the restarts and then we all kind of fell in line.”
