Super Chevys at Super Run and Spanky’s

The end of September signals the annual ‘Super Run’-- a car show and special drag race in old downtown Henderson, Nev.  In previous editions, Thursday evening was held at the District in the Green Valley area of Henderson. Recent street construction made that impossible this year, so the show was presented on Friday through Sunday on Water Street in the civic center of Las Vegas’ largest suburb.

On Thursday night, the Fiesta Hotel & Casino presented a preview of Super Run. And in place of The District, Spanky’s held a show at Windmill and Bermuda just off I-215.

Henderson, NV. Of the many cars exhibited over two weeks in Henderson, Ted, ‘Sparky’ McClure’s ‘Yosemite Sam’ 1955 chopped top gasser was the finest! Great paint, Pro style hood scoop, spoiler wing in the rear and chrome wheelie bars.

At the Henderson Civic Center, there were more than 1,000 entrants that stretched from Ocean Avenue on the east, all the way down to Lake Meade Blvd. on the west. This writer along with Ron Ogilvie and ace photographer Tim Marshall walked the entire show this year. Tim will concentrate on the many Mopars in attendance in sister publication MOPAR Max, while we bring MAX CHEVY readers a few of the many ‘hot’ Chevrolets on display.  Enjoy!

(LEFT) Super Run 2013 at Fiesta: Drag Racing was well represented again this year at the Super Run, with competition in Roaring Engines, Burn Out, and Slow Drags.

Easily the most coveted prize at every ‘Super Run’ is the Roaring Engine competition. A ’55 Chevy Gasser claimed the overall prize, being runner-up on Friday and winning outright on Saturday. Steve Darnell turned the trick with his correct height headers and all business approach.
