Motion Monsters, Muscle Mayhem and Many Surprises

Words and photos by Geoff Stunkard

There is no mistaking the reality that the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals (http://www.mcacn.com), the multi-make offspring of the old Chevy Vette Fest, is becoming a major, if not the major, gathering of rare muscle cars on the planet. Indeed, now in its fifth year, MCACN is look forward to by collectors, restorers, and enthusiasts alike, a two-day museum of power and speed that gives the public a chance to see rarities from around the nation.

For 2013, a couple of big things were scheduled to be in store for the faithful. One was a gathering of Baldwin Motion supercars, which included a wide number of cars as well as personalities Joel Rosen, Martyn Schorr, and Joe Oldham. The other was a special Z28 Invitational, which stretched along a row of cars from 1967 to 1980, including several low mileage examples and the legendary Pete Estes’ ’68 convertible. Of course, with multiple unveilings, several areas that were not brand-specific and plenty more, you had to see it to believe it.

Corvettes also played a prominent role, with a full ring of documented L88 models, several one-off pieces of history, and even cars in the barn finds section. Here is a selection of photos from the event; make your plans to attend next year. The venue is just minutes from O’Hare Airport, with restaurants and food close by. Dates for 2014 will be Nov. 21-22.
