If you’ve read car magazines for, oh, the last 30 years, you’ve undoubtedly read stories about bolt-on performance items that made working on cars and trucks as smooth and easy as tying your shoes. Same goes for those weekend car shows on cable TV, which leave the impression that a half-hour is all that’s needed to install a nitrous system – and no dirty hands, to boot!

The real world, of course, isn’t quite as neat and tidy; and our experience reinforces the belief that, more often than not, simple bolt-on projects require twice the time for results that don’t always meet expectations. This may seem a cynical outlook, but it’s based on reality.
